Next Steps 2019

Updated: Mar 11, 2020

2019 was a busy year for The HAL Project and following the success of our 2018 pilot teacher training we now had evidence to show that the charity was viable and had a positive impact on education in The Gambia. In June 2019 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between The HAL Project and the permanent secretary for Education in The Gambia and in October 2019 The HAL Project also became a registered charity in the UK, which was very exciting.

Throughout the year I (Lindsay) continued communications with Momodou Jeng, the Director of INSET (In-service Education and Training) who organised our next teacher training in December 2019 for 30 teachers representing 15 lower basic schools. Fundraising has continued and knowing that other arrangements would need to be made regarding the transport of PE equipment, I followed up a recommendation for Moneypipe to arrange transport by freight. In October Neil and I left seven boxes containing PE equipment, education games and sports kits in Brighton with a promise from Baboucarr that the package would arrive in The Gambia by December 2019. And it did....and much to my surprise on my arrival I also found it!

Please look at my next blog to see how I got on HAL teacher training in The Gambia in December 2019.
